I am saddened to report that long-time District 7 member and pattern flyer, Jim Brown, passed away on Monday, August 16th after a long bout with cancer. Jim was a fixture on the Dist 7 pattern scene for many, many years. He traveled to all the contests faithfully in northern and southern california. I recall traveling with Jim to Gardnerville a couple of years ago when driving thru the Mammoth area with rain pouring down. I asked Jim: "Hey... you think it may be a good idea to turn on the windshield wipers???.... Jim's response: "I can see!!!" Another time traveling with going north on the 5 Freeway traveling to the Hollister contest, Jim was driving making sure not to exceed the 65 mile speed limit...while in the fast lane! Never moving and cars passing by flipping us the bird! Jim's response: "let them go around!" when I asked "shouldn't you move over to the right lane?"... I have many fun memories of Jim who could as you can tell be a stuborn geezer, but we loved him just as he was. Jim, you will be missed. Keep your wings level and stay in the box.

For those interested in saying goodbye here are the details of the viewing and funeral service:

Viewing Friday August 20 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Pierce Brothers Mortuary located at 13002 Central Ave., Chino, CA 91710. Rosary at 6:00 pm

I attended the Mira Mar Flyers club meeting last night and have more information on the contest.  Unfortunately, we cannot practice at the field on Friday at this point.  There may be a chance that MMNAS will not be flying that day, and if so, we can, but we will not know that until later.  Stay tuned and I will send out a message if we get the OK.  Also, there is no smoking at the field or even in your car at the field.  You will have to drive out to the main road to smoke.  And finally, all trash must be taken out with you.  Sorry about all the rules, but this is a little different venue than we are used to, so we must adapt.  So let’s show the class that all us pattern flyers have, do the right thing, and I know we will all have a great time in San Diego.  As always – any further questions, call me.  Thanks.
Bill
