North wins the North/South Team trophy - 10/31/2009

NEWS FLASH

After long drought, the North wins the North/South Team trophy again!

The North/South Team trophy was instituted several years ago to add some fun, friendly competition between the northern part of the district and the southern portion. We had a trophy made that would be contested for each year at the District 7 Championships. Well, the North won the trophy in the first year but since then it has been “bolted” to Bill Wallace’s mantle! The trophy had been in the south so long that it was growing moss! Well, in 2009 the north team was determined to bring it back. The final score was North – 19 and the South – 17. If you break it down by class the points came out this way:

                        North              South

FAI                  4                      4

Masters          2                      5

Advanced      4                      3

Intermediate 3                      4

Sportsman     6                      1

Total               19                    17

It is interesting that the results were pretty even for the most part (must be some really good Master’s pilots down south!) but the North made a great showing in Sportsman! Many thanks to Jacob Boracca, Michael Fan and Ron Saccardo who all got points for the North team in Sportsman, we also must note that Jean Greear in only her second contest won a point for the South in Sportsman! Way to go Jean!

There was some confusion at the contest as to how the points are figured for the team trophy which I apologize for as I was “stuck” at a family reunion and missed the contest. If anyone has any questions as to how it is figured please ask me and I will explain it.

Again, congratulations to all of the pilots at the District Championships and I hope that the team trophy just adds a little fun extra element to the contest. I did hear that Bill Wallace was muttering something that sounded like “the South shall rise again” but that is currently unconfirmed!

Thanks

Jon Carter
